Hostess Gifts

Hostess gifts are always fun to give. They are pleasant, unexpected surprises.

Bringing hostess gifts to parties is a wonderful way to show your hostess your appreciation for opening her home to you and providing a meal, hor'dourves or otherwise. It's a friendly gesture and one that I'm sure she'll appreciate.

When we attend Christmas or New Year's parties I like to take along a richly scented candle gift. I always get an "Oh, you didn't have to do that!" comment, but I love to see the excitement in my hostess' eye when I present the gift to her.

She's excited about having people in her home and creating a warm, relaxing atmosphere for her guests. The gift just tops the cake. An appreciation for all her hard work.

Scented candles make lovely hostess gifts for several reasons:

*Almost every woman enjoys a candle and will be happy you gave them one.

*they can help decorate for the evening. A candle flame adds to the ambiance.

*Scented candles are classy gifts.

*They can be inexpensive and still be quite nice.

*They are wonderful additions to gift baskets for any occasion.

If your hostess is a host, fear not! Men like man candles such as leather scented candles, cedar wood or wine scented candles.

Hostess Gift Ideas
for Scented Candles

A gift basket is a great appreciation gift and doesn't have to be expensive. They are fairly easy to put together yourself or you can buy one premade and skip the hassle.

Let's think of some different parties that you attend and see some ideas for each occasion.

Super Bowl Parties
A candle with some dip mixes, crackers and cheese or team paraphanalia. Bring along two gift baskets and a mini football. One basket for the hostess, of course, and the other to give away as a prize. Toss the football to a different person with each touchdown. The person left holding the ball at the end of the game wins the extra gift basket.

Christmas Parties
A simple, single candle in a cello bag tied with beautiful ribbons. For example: a peppermint candle with some peppermint candies would look nice.

A pretty Christmas candle gift basket filled with Santas or snowmen and a Christmas tree ornament.

A Christmas scented candle with a bottle of wine and wine glasses.

A true candle gift basket complete with candle, candle lighter and candle snuffer or a candle with a wick trimmer and a wick dipper.

If you like to send fruit baskets at Christmas. Just add fruit scented candles to dress it up a bit.

New Year's Eve Parties
Bring along votive candles for everyone to light at midnight while singing Auld Lang Syne. Guests can take the candles home with them after the party.

A gift basket with a candle, noise makers and a bottle of champaigne.

Halloween Parties
Black candles are a must for Halloween. Decorate a Halloween candles gift basket with spiders, cobwebs, or whatever you would like and fill with black votives or larger candles and a skull or other fake body parts.

Use a Halloween candy bucket or bowl for your basket and fill with candy and a black candle. You may even add a fake, bloody hand wrapped around the candle for a ghoulish effect.

An inexpensive idea: Fill a goody bag with your hostess' favorite candy and add a single, small black candle.

Birthday Parties
Any kind of scented candle makes a good birthday gift. Pick the birthday gal's (or guy's) favorite fragrance and then add something else they enjoy. A good book or gift card to the book store, a gift certificate to the spa, a coupon for free babysitting, you get the idea.

A few chocolate scented candles and some gourmet chocolates.

Coffee scented candles with a gift card to the local coffee shop.

Dinner Parties
Elegant candle fragrances are good for dinner parties. Think wine scented candles with a bottle of wine and some wine glass markers or some gourmet cheeses.

You can even use a metal basket or a more upscale wooden basket for a more elegant presentation. The basket can be a wonderful part of the gift.

You can see scented candles compliment gift baskets for any occasion by themselves or with other little goodies. The best part for us is giving hostess gifts is fun.
