Decorating With Candles
Decorating with candles is just plain nice. A candle flame has somewhat of a healing quality to it, making you feel good inside with a warm, homey feeling. Scented candles relax the spirit and calm the mind. Which is something everyone needs. With scented candles your home is decorated with
fragrance.
The mood is set with whatever fragrance you choose to enjoy. Fall fragrances, Christmas fragrances, Spring fragrances, coffee fragrances, chocolate, oh, the possibilities are endless. However, if you're having guests that can't tolerate fragrances you can still throw a few unscented votive candles around and create a great ambiance for them as well. The candle flame alone can get the party started right. So where do you start decorating with candles? General Ideas For Decorating With Candles
BathroomOne votive is great and works, but for a little more flare (pardon the pun) group three votives together either of the same fragrance or three complimentary fragrances. You can even try a larger votive in the middle of two smaller ones. Place the votives near the mirror. The reflection gives the illusion of having more candles and more light. If you have a ledge around the tub, this is a great place for decorating with candles. Light them and relax after a long day. Fireplace Candles When decorating with candles on your mantle, pillar candles work great atop decorative candlesticks. You may light them or choose to leave them unlit. Always work in odd numbers, 1, 3, 5, etc. It creates a more visually pleasing grouping. You may also use votives on the mantle. There are so many beautiful wrought iron votive holders on the market. They have wonderful scroll work and hold multiple votive glasses. If you are using votive candles in a fake fireplace, please be sure to use a screen to keep children from playing in them. Living Room Decor Decorating the living room is a must, since it is your 'living room', the room you entertain in and live in most (unless your a woman and then it's the kitchen, but we'll get there in a moment). Scented candles on side tables give a homey feel to the room, not to mention they fill the room with homey fragrances. They're great for those evenings when you need to sit and relax. You may also have wall sconces which are beautiful additions to any decor. Just remember that burning pillar candles that close to a wall may leave soot marks. Candles in hurricanes may be the better choice or opt for electric candles which also come fragranced. Kitchen Decorations Ok, ladies, here's our room! The room where we spend most of our time. All that cooking and baking! Want to make it seem like you're busy when your not? Light a candle in the kitchen! Food fragranced candles will have the family running in to see what you're up to. It will also make home feel more like home. The best place, and safest in my opinion, to burn scented candles in the kitchen is on the stove. With all the congregating that goes on in that room it keeps the candle out of the way and on a safe surface. Unless you're busy cooking that's where your scented candles should go. However, if you would like to make a nice centerpiece on the breakfast table or have a candle burning on your island, that would be nice too. Bedroom Decorations The bedroom is actually not the safest place for lit candles. I don't recommend having them there. It's too easy to fall asleep or leave the room which leaves them unattended. However, electric candles or candle warmers work great for these areas.
